How is the eye led into the work?
I feel like the colour runs lead your eye up and down. Like the runs of a ladder, you eye looks to see what colour will come next.
Does one element lead the eye onto the next?
Although the two elements compliment each other in a practical manner, they more blend into each other. There is definitely room for development in that area to make the two elements as strong individually as they are together.
Does the work seem balanced?
Yes, the work feels balanced with an an even spread of colour and materials. If anything too even and flat and safe.
What, in your judgement, are the important compositional elements of the work?
Colour and lines are important elements within this piece. Based on a family fun day, based on fun, colour, happiness. Lines are evenly spread allowing for the lengths of plastic to be woven through.
After doing all this work I went to draw up my ideas and came across my sketch of the above piece. And thought that this would be interesting to explore the linear lines, use of colour. I feel like there are more areas to explore and have fun with.
Using the golden ratio as inspiration making my marks in a mindful way using that ratio template below as a guide. I did not feel the first attempt hit what was trying to achieve as the marks were too subtle not take the viewers glance across the page into the image.
Where as with my second attempt actually cutting out the the squares, changing direction, and size of the marks. This made for a much more successful piece, interesting to the drawing your eye around the page with its abstract pattern.
