Trying to get my head around the use of maths in art blows my mind. I’ve found it difficult to read about and understand. Being more of a visual person, I became more confused, but this is what I think it means.
There’s a formula that’s been used
for centuries to create a balance in artworks. The ratio is 1 to 1.618
for the golden ratio. The golden ratio can be found in nature in such things as
plants and shells.
The golden ratio balances asymmetry and symmetry in a visually pleasing way. Research suggests that even little changes to the image to get it closer to the golden ratio greatly impact the brain of the viewer.
The general size of the piece’s
layout using the golden rectangle, putting focal points where the golden spiral
would be. It isn’t just used in art, it can be in architecture, design, and
nature.
I found this YouTube video
interesting and helped me to understand the rule.
